Eastbourne Pier

Eastbourne pier was opened in 1870 and on Wednesday 30th July 2014 suffered a most damaging fire.

The fire started around 3pm in an amusement arcade towards the front end of the pier. The pier had an amusement arcade, a night club and numerous retail outlets as well as being a popular fishing platform.

Up to 80 firefighters tackled the fire and lifeboats from Eastbourne, Hastings and Newhaven were in attendance.

Firefighters used lifeboats to help tackle the fire from the sea and an aerial platform as a water tower to prevent the fire from spreading on the shore side. It would seem that the fire services could not save the arcade that was previously a ball room.
